Welcome to the WAVE - and be part of it!
Interview with Louis Palmer, initiator and tour director of the WAVE
Louis Palmer, you have circumnavigated the earth as first man ever in a solar powered car, and since 5 years you are organising the world's largest electric vehicle rally. What motivates you to do that?
Our economic system is built on fossil fuels. It has brought many people on this planet a lot of wealth and power. But the longer we - as a society - continue on this path, the more we are confronted with their downsides. Like wars or global warming. We are putting our lifes at risk. But with renewable energies, we could create even more wealth and all downsides would be ellimated. This is what I want to show to the people of this world. I wanted to inspire and show that everyone can be part of the solution.
Do you think inspiration is enough?
I have reached and inspired 1 billion peeople on this planet through the media. But this is not enough. Because we are in a race against time, if we want to stop global warming. Now we must change the world.
Don't you think this should be left to the leaders of this world?
Recently old men and women with white hair were celebrating a new climate deal in Paris, and the whole world talked about a "historic" agreement. So far so good. But what has really been achieved? Accoridng to this deal, global temperatures are "only" going to rise by 2.7 C°, but every country will "try" for 1.5 C°! There is no global plan for implementation, it's all based on goodwill and hope. Has anyone asked those, who will stll be around on this planet in 40 or 80 years from now, if they agree to this experiment? If things go wrong, the looser will not be the people on the stage today, but our children! One thing is sure: Paris has paved the way for a change which is necessary and overdue. But much more work is ahead of us. And the society has more power to change than politics.
What else must happen in order to save the planet?
For changing the world, it's not enough that ministers and nations pay for climate damages, invest in new technologies and to come together once every year to a conference to discuss the progress. The whole civil society must change, in a way like Nelson Mandela said: "Education is the most powerful weapon if you want to change the world!" Everyone has to change. Everyone has to commit. Everywhere. That's the big work to be done, and no money in this world is enough to pay for that. Only a certain spirit can make this happen. The spirit of change. The spirit of inspiration, action and hope. The spirit of the people who are comitted to make this change happen. The spirit of the WAVE!
How do you want to help to change the world?
The WAVE is a platform for everyone who wants to join and to contribute to save our planet. We want to raise awareness and invite people all over the world who want to save the planet and make it a greener and safer place for future generations. Some people drive electric cars, some teach, some help with their work, and some donate. Because everyone can join the WAVE and be part of it. Because combating the WAVE of rising Sea levels or heat-WAVES, requires a WAVE of like-minded people, action and comittment. And there are millions of such people out there.
What kind of people can participate?
We are looking for
teachers, who educate their pupils about Climate Change
school administrators, who want to be part of this WAVE, with their whole school
electric vehicle owners, who want to be Ambassadors for clean technologies
Allrounders, who want to help us, for example to spread the word
Donors, who want to support us.
Our aim is to reach every school child in the world.
